Six Steps to Bathe Your Dog at Home with Ease

For new dog parents, bathing your dog can feel unfamiliar and daunting. You may worry that your lack of experience could harm your dog, causing them to feel anxious about baths in the future. Today, Arf Arf will guide you on how to bathe your dog at home and what tools you’ll need, making the process much simpler than you might think.

  • Preparation

You will need the following tools:
    a comb
    a massage brush
    a bath sponge
    dog shampoo
    a towel for drying
    a hairdryer.
If your dog has long hair, you should also prepare a coat conditioner.

Step 1
Before bathing, brush your dog's fur to reduce tangles while soothing their emotions.

Step 2
Wet your dog's body with warm water, gently parting the fur as you rinse to ensure that the undercoat gets wet as well.

Using your thumb and index finger, gently express your dog's anal glands from the inside out. Apply gentle pressure and push upward, then rinse away the expelled contents with water.

Step 3
Mix the shampoo with water in the appropriate ratio. Use a bath sponge to lather it up, then use the massage brush to scrub your dog.

While scrubbing, be careful not to let the foam get into your dog’s eyes. Use your fingers to gently wash their face. Scrub the entire body for about 10 minutes.

Step 4
Rinse off the foam from your dog's body. Use a cup to gently rinse the foam off their head to prevent water from entering their eyes, nose, or ears, which could cause distress.

Step 5
Use a towel to dry off most of the moisture from your dog’s body, making it easier for the next step.

Step 6
Take out the hairdryer and dry your dog by blowing air while brushing their fur in the opposite direction. This will speed up the drying process and add volume to their coat.

After the bath, pay attention to two things:

Avoid Going Outside
Newly bathed pets have more sensitive skin and a lower immune response, making them more susceptible to colds and illnesses. It is advisable to avoid taking your pet outside immediately after a bath!

Treat Rewards
Remember to give your furry friend some treats as a reward after the bath, creating a positive association with bathing!
