Winter Care Guide for Dogs
Share
As temperatures drop, dogs that have finished shedding their coats remind their owners that winter is approaching. On colder days, inadequate warmth can lead to dogs catching colds. So, how can we ensure our dogs stay healthy and warm throughout the winter?
- Add Blankets
Place extra blankets or fabric in the areas where your dog sleeps, ensuring they stay warm while dreaming.
- Dress Your Dog
If your dog has a short coat, consider putting them in clothing during winter. However, if your dog has a long coat, it’s not recommended to dress them, as this may cause overheating and lead to sweating.
- Thoroughly Dry After Bathing
Many owners think that after a summer bath, it’s enough to just towel dry their dog and let the remaining moisture air dry. However, this approach doesn’t work in winter. Most winter colds in dogs occur because owners fail to completely dry or blow-dry their dogs after a bath.
- Ensure Adequate Water Intake
In winter, dogs may drink less water. To combat this, stop providing other beverages at home, such as milk, to avoid insufficient hydration, which can lead to decreased bodily functions.
